This is a digital painting of Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins done on a Wacom tablet from beginning to end. I had a real good time working on the portrait.
This has the look and texture of a real canvas portrait. I had to look up that tablet you spoke of; all so fascinating how digital means can imitate the more traditional methods. I love that you borrowed from the photo of him standing with his family and the servants. You've brought him forward from the background of that setting. He emerges from the shadows as the "man out of time" that he truly is. The standard shirt and tie, along with the pin-striping of his suit, are elegant touches and in keeping with the look of Depp's idol, Mr. Frid, when he played the role. And, I think it is quite amusing that just a hint of the rebellious, quirky nature of Depp shows through in the manner in which the tie's knot does is slightly off-kilter, and does not come all the way up to the top of his shirt collar. That almost says that Barnabas needs more practice tying a modern tie. A somber, world-weary expression on his face speaks of mystery. The likeness to Depp is remarkable, down to the hollows in the cheeks. His hair is perfect. A beautiful portrait!
